The Art of Distraction

Distraction is something that everyone is guilty of........ and I'm the first to admit its one of my biggest sins!

Distraction is defined as the divided attention of an individual or group from the chosen object of attention onto the source of distraction. It is said to be caused by: the lack of ability to pay attention; lack of interest in the object of attention; or the great intensity, novelty or attractiveness of something other than the object of attention.

For me, distraction probably plays one of the biggest parts in my not so 'glamarous' life! For the fact that i am so easily distracted, makes me the scatty 'half-wit' that i am!!

Take work for example- a stressful job, over worked and under paid. So when it comes to getting numerous assessments and notes on a file- time management is crucial. Already going without a lunch break, any additional distractions generally lead to un paid over time! So whether its joke emails, freeads or the biggest culprit being social network sites- i am all over it! This then leads to unnecessary stress! Leaving work late, stuck in traffic and then a back log of work for the following day. And then come the sleepless nights worrying about how you are going to tackle your never ending workload!

Another scenario where distraction is frequent has to be attending to the 'to do' list! Generally the 'to do' list is the list of shit jobs that you have put off for doing so long, that in order to feel like you are dealing with them, you put them in a list! So if its housework, washing the car or some endless job that you just cant be arsed to do- distractions are welcomed with open arms!

If your like me, then to class yourself as 'abit nosey' is an understatement! For having a good nose into what other people are up to is classed as entertainment! Normally, nosing into other people's business generally gives us a cheap laugh and often makes us feel better about ourselves! Nosiness is probably the biggest distraction of them all!

So... i ask my myself...... how come i never achieve positive distractions?? I mean, I'm never sat on the sofa  and then become distracted by my gym bag? Or when necking a bottle of wine am i ever distracted by a sparkling pellegrin? Or perhaps when tucking into a naughty take away am i not distracted by a green leaf salad??

My rant about distraction has merely been a distraction to me attempting to put any effort into starting my 6000 word assignment that is due in 7 days!

So, i hope you have enjoyed my discussion on distraction and that i haven't distracted you from attempting to not be distracted from whatever it was that you were doing before you were distracted by this!!

“I have wandered all my life, and I have traveled; the difference between the two being this, that we wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfillment.”

Wine and Friends

Following an evening of good company, good wine and good food, I began to associate the links between wine and friends. I started to think 'what is it about a group of friends and a bottle of wine that makes a good night?'.
For no matter how cheap, how strong or the colour of the wine- it always does it's job.
In my opinion, opening a bottle of wine and sharing it with good friends provides a sense of enjoyment and certainly promotes laughter. Wine has certainly become my preference over the 'lets sit down and have a cup of tea', and I'm sure many others would agree.

So when you get the opportunity to meet up with good people, share a drink with them and be prepared to create great memories.
and then great hangovers............... or great injuries!!!!
